Comparison - AI design generator
Winy vs Claude Design
Claude Design makes the polished visual; Winy is the canvas where you think it through and where Claude Code builds it.
Claude Design is Anthropic's tool for making designs, clickable prototypes, slides and one-pagers by chatting with Claude, on brand with a design system it builds from your code and design files.
Winy is a native infinite-canvas notebook for Mac, iPad and iPhone where real agent sessions like Claude Code and Codex run as live cards next to your ink and notes.
They do different jobs: Claude Design produces the finished visual, and Winy is where you sketch the idea and run the agents that build it, including the Claude Code session that takes Claude Design's handoff.

Which one is for you
Choose Claude Design if
- You need a polished, on-brand mockup, prototype or deck from a prompt.
- You want designs that follow your team's components and colors automatically.
- You want to export to PDF, PowerPoint, HTML or Canva, or hand a design to Claude Code to build.
- You already pay for Claude and want it in the same place you chat.
Choose Winy if
- You want to think on an infinite canvas with Pencil ink, notes and arrows before anything is designed.
- You want Claude Code, Codex or any CLI agent running live on the board next to your notes.
- You want the same board on your Mac, iPad and iPhone.
- You want to see at a glance which agents are working and which are waiting on you.
Using both
Use both. Sketch the idea and lay out the plan on a Winy board, make the polished design in Claude Design, then send its handoff to a Claude Code session that runs as a live card on the same board, next to the notes it is building from.
Questions
Is Claude Design free?
Claude Design is included in every Claude plan, including Free. It counts toward the same usage limits as the rest of Claude, shared with work like Claude Code, so bigger projects use more of your limit.
What is a good Claude Design alternative?
For design work, the usual alternative is Figma. Winy is not a design tool: it is a native canvas for thinking with Pencil ink and notes, where coding agents run as live cards. Many people will use Claude Design for the visual and Winy for the thinking and the build.
Does Claude Design work with Claude Code?
Yes. Claude Design can hand a finished design to Claude Code, and in Claude Code the /design and /design-sync commands import designs and pull in your design system. In Winy that Claude Code session can run as a live card on your board.
Is claude.ai/design going away?
Anthropic says the standalone claude.ai/design site closes on December 14, 2026, and Claude Design now works inside any Claude conversation, Claude Code and the Artifacts tab.
