Winy

Comparison - Claude Code desktop GUI

Winy vs opcode

opcode wraps Claude Code in a desktop window with a project browser and usage charts; Winy puts Claude Code and Codex on a canvas next to your notes.

opcode, the project first released as Claudia, is an open-source desktop app for Claude Code that browses your projects and past sessions, runs custom agents in the background, tracks token cost, manages MCP servers and checkpoints a session on a branching timeline.

Winy is a native infinite-canvas notebook for Mac, iPad and iPhone, where real Claude Code and Codex sessions sit on the board as live cards beside your notes, ink and images.

Both give Claude Code a friendlier face than a bare terminal, but opcode is a session manager organized around projects and history, and Winy is a board you think on with the agents on it.

Which one is for you

Choose opcode if

  • You want a free, open-source GUI for Claude Code that you can read, fork and build yourself.
  • You want a cost and token dashboard, MCP server management and session checkpoints with restore and fork, all in one window.
  • You want to define custom Claude Code agents with their own system prompts and permissions and run them in the background.
  • You are on Linux or Windows, where Winy does not run.

Choose Winy if

  • You run Codex or other CLI agents next to Claude Code and want them all on one board.
  • You plan with notes, arrows and a Pencil, and want that thinking next to the agents and visible to them.
  • You want the board on your iPad and iPhone too, with local-first sync over your own network and no cloud holding your notes.
  • You are looking for a replacement because opcode's last release was in August 2025.

Questions

Is opcode the same as Claudia?

Yes. opcode is the renamed Claudia project; the old getAsterisk/claudia GitHub repo now redirects to winfunc/opcode.

Is opcode still maintained?

Its last tagged release is v0.2.0 from August 2025, and the last code change in its repo is from October 2025. Check the GitHub repo for anything newer before you rely on it.

Is opcode free?

Yes. opcode is open source under the AGPL-3.0 license, with macOS and Linux builds on its GitHub releases page and build-from-source steps for Windows.

Is Winy an opcode alternative?

For giving Claude Code a home outside the bare terminal, yes, from a different direction. opcode is a session manager with usage charts and checkpoints; Winy puts each agent on a canvas next to your notes, on Mac, iPad and iPhone.

Does opcode work with Codex?

No. opcode is built around the Claude Code CLI and reads its ~/.claude directory. Winy runs Claude Code, Codex and any other CLI agent as cards.

Thinking is Winning

Think with your agents.

Winy is a Mac, iPad and iPhone canvas where you think and work with AI agents in one place. Better thinking in, better output.
