Comparison - AI coding agent
Winy vs Codex
Codex is OpenAI's coding agent; Winy is the board where Codex sessions run as cards beside your notes.
Codex is OpenAI's coding agent, available as a CLI, an IDE extension, a cloud service and inside the ChatGPT apps.
Winy is a native infinite-canvas notebook for Mac, iPad and iPhone, where real agent sessions, Codex included, sit on the board as live cards next to your notes, ink and images.
Winy has no model of its own, so it does not replace Codex: it gives your Codex sessions a place on the board where you can see them and think around them.

Which one is for you
Choose Codex if
- You want the agent itself: Codex is what reads your repository, edits files and runs commands.
- You already pay for ChatGPT, which includes Codex on every plan from Free to Enterprise.
- You want cloud tasks, GitHub code review or an API key setup for CI, straight from OpenAI.
Choose Winy if
- You run Codex next to Claude Code or other CLI agents and want all of them on one board.
- You want your notes, sketches and arrows beside the agent, and visible to it.
- You want the same board, agents included, on your Mac, iPad and iPhone, synced over your own network.
Using both
Use both. Codex runs as a card on the Winy canvas, a real session on the Mac that owns the terminal. Put it next to a Claude Code card and your notes for the task, draw on top of it while it runs, and zoom out to see which agents are working and which are waiting on you.
Questions
Does Winy work with Codex?
Yes. Codex runs in Winy as a card on the canvas, like Claude Code or any other CLI agent.
Can I run Codex and Claude Code side by side?
Yes. That is what Winy is for: each session is a card, and they share one board with your notes.
Is Codex free?
OpenAI includes Codex in ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Edu and Enterprise plans, with limits that grow by plan. You can also use an API key billed at API rates.
Do I need a ChatGPT plan to use Codex in Winy?
Yes, or an OpenAI API key. Winy does not include a model; it runs the Codex you sign in to.
Thinking is Winning
Think with your agents.
Winy is a Mac, iPad and iPhone canvas where you think and work with AI agents in one place. Better thinking in, better output.
